About IIAM

Founded in Pune in 2011, IIAM provides dermatologist-led education in aesthetic medicine and medical cosmetology for dermatologists and other qualified doctors.

THE INSTITUTE

Founded in Pune in 2011 by Dr. L.K. Desai, MD Dermatology, PGIMER Chandigarh, IIAM was created to bring clinical judgement and academic structure to the teaching of aesthetic medicine.

At IIAM, technique is not taught in isolation. Every intervention is considered in relation to diagnosis, patient suitability, treatment planning, safety, expected outcomes and follow-up.

This clinical framework shapes the institute’s teaching across aesthetic medicine, medical cosmetology, trichology and allied areas of practice.

Every course at IIAM is shaped by direct clinical experience, not just textbook theory. Students learn to think through real cases — recognizing patterns, weighing treatment options, and understanding the medico-legal side of aesthetic practice — so they're prepared for the realities of running their own setup, not just passing an exam.

A CLINICAL FRAMEWORK FOR AESTHETIC MEDICINE

Sound aesthetic practice begins with clinical assessment, not procedure selection. Skin type, pigmentary behaviour, anatomy, ageing pattern, healing response, medical history and patient expectations all determine what is appropriate, what is achievable and how treatment should be planned.

At IIAM, procedures are taught within this clinical continuum—from indication and patient selection to treatment, review and follow-up.

“Our training goes beyond lectures — every student learns by doing, guided by protocols we’ve tested and refined ourselves, so they leave ready to practice with real confidence.”

WHAT DEFINES THE IIAM APPROACH

CLINICAL FOUNDATIONS

Skin, hair, pigmentation, ageing, scarring and treatment response are considered before technique

INDICATION-LED TREATMENT

Diagnosis, suitability, contraindications and realistic objectives guide the choice of intervention.

COHERENT LEARNING

Related subjects are taught as a connected body of knowledge rather than as isolated demonstrations.

PRACTICE DISCIPLINE

Consultation, consent, documentation, safety, complication awareness and follow-up remain part of the learning process

THE FELLOWSHIP AT THE CORE OF IIAM

The Fellowship in Aesthetic Medicine is IIAM’s principal academic programme and the clearest expression of its clinical approach to training.

Designed for dermatologists and qualified doctors, it brings together the major domains of contemporary aesthetic practice—including skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, lasers and energy-based devices, facial aesthetics and injectables, trichology and hair restoration—within one structured learning pathway.

The Fellowship extends beyond procedural exposure to patient assessment, indication, treatment selection, sequencing, documentation, safety and follow-up—helping doctors place every intervention within a considered clinical plan.

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP

IIAM was founded and is academically led by Dr. L.K. Desai, MD Dermatology, PGIMER Chandigarh, whose teaching in aesthetic medicine has guided doctors since 2011.

His dermatology-led perspective gives the institute its clinical depth—shaping how skin and hair biology, treatment response, patient suitability, indication-based planning and procedural judgement are understood and taught.

Under his direction, IIAM maintains a disciplined approach to aesthetic medicine: assess carefully, select appropriately and intervene with clarity, safety and restraint

BEYOND THE FELLOWSHIP

Alongside the Fellowship, IIAM offers selected focused clinical workshops in defined areas of aesthetic medicine, medical cosmetology, trichology and hair restoration. These formats address specific learning objectives; the Fellowship remains the institute’s broadest academic pathway.
