Dr. Laxmikant Desai

Founder and Academic Director, Indian Institute of Aesthetic Medicine

PGIMER-trained dermatologist and medical educator shaping structured training in aesthetic medicine and medical cosmetology for doctors since 2011.

Lakshmikant Desai

FOUNDER AND ACADEMIC DIRECTOR, IIAM

Professional Profile

Dr. L.K. Desai is a senior dermatologist and the Founder and Academic Director of the Indian Institute of Aesthetic Medicine.

He completed his MD Dermatology from PGIMER, Chandigarh, and brings a specialist understanding of skin, hair, pigmentation, ageing, scarring and treatment response to the teaching of aesthetic medicine and medical cosmetology.

His earlier professional experience includes association with Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital, Koregaon Park, Pune.

Dr. Desai founded IIAM in 2011 to provide qualified doctors with a clinically informed and academically organised pathway into aesthetic practice. Since then, he has trained and mentored doctors in aesthetic medicine, medical cosmetology, trichology and related areas of clinical practice.

He is also invited as faculty and speaker at professional conferences, seminars and academic programmes.

Dermatologist’s Approach to Aesthetic Medicine

Aesthetic medicine is often reduced to a catalogue of procedures. Dr. Desai’s approach begins with diagnosis, indication, patient suitability and clinical judgement.

Skin type, pigmentation tendency, healing response, anatomy, ageing pattern, medical history and patient expectations all influence treatment selection and outcome. Procedural familiarity alone is therefore insufficient. A doctor must understand why a treatment is being considered, what it can realistically achieve, how it should be planned and where its limitations lie.

This dermatologist-led approach forms the clinical and academic foundation of IIAM.

Academic Leadership and Teaching Approach

As Founder and Academic Director, Dr. Desai guides IIAM’s programme structure, curriculum priorities and teaching standards

The purpose of IIAM training is not simply to introduce doctors to more procedures, but to help them make better clinical decisions around the procedures they choose to offer.
